CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- The struggling symphony orchestra in North Carolina's largest city has hit the right note with donors and will play for another season.
The Charlotte Symphony reached its year-end goal of raising $500,000 to match an anonymous $500,000 grant offered in August. The previously anonymous donors have identified themselves as Sandra and Leon Levine.
Since their challenge grant was announced in August, the symphony received nearly 100 donations of between $5 and $200,000.
Meeting the year-end goal means the symphony also expects to qualify for $900,000 from the local Arts & Science Council, which threatened to cut the symphony's funding because of questions about its viability.
