CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The mission is clear: hire our heroes.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is holding special job fairs across the country, and Tuesday, there was one right here in Charlotte.
Justina Forbes has put in her time.
The single mom spent 11 years first handling logistics for the Navy, and then working as a jet engine mechanic with the Army.
Now she's a veteran, and looking for work.
“It’s been tough because you think with experience and a degree that you can get a job. But the job market is really tight and it’s really hard,” Forbes said.
She's been looking for three years and today tried something new -- attending a job fair. This one, called Hiring our Heroes, is designed specifically to get veterans in to the workforce.
“It’s pretty interesting because you're actually speaking with the people that do the interviews. These are the individuals who actually set up interviews.
She's hoping this will help her find not just a job, but a career.
“Part time work is easy to find but to get a full time position that pays what you feel your value is is hard to find.”
So far, more than 20,000 vets have found jobs through these fairs. The goal is to get 50,000 employed by the end of next year.
