CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- MSNBC is reporting the Queen City is the frontrunner to host the Democratic National Convention in 2012.
Despite the positive report, city leaders say a lot of work remains to be done to bring the convention to Charlotte.
"It's always flattering to be considered a strong choice, but this is a competition and we've got to keep working to put the best foot forward for our community," said Mayor Anthony Foxx.
According to MSNBC, Charlotte is the favorite over St. Louis, Minneapolis and Cleveland, and there are reports that one potential city might have to drop out if they can't come up with the money to host.
The convention would be expected to bring between $150-$200 million to the city.
Foxx said representatives from the Democratic National Committee will visit Charlotte in the coming weeks to make sure the city has enough amenities to host the convention. They will take a look at hotels, the transit system and the convention center.
