CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte's mayor is speaking out against the idea of Ballantyne becoming its own town.
Mayor Anthony Foxx held a town hall meeting with neighbors Thursday night, and the topic of Ballantyne seceding from Charlotte came up.
The mayor said he was against it because he's invested in all sections of the city.
"Ultimately whether it's keeping our city safe, whether it's jobs, we have to be responsible for making sure that all parts of our city are as strong as we can make them," Foxx said.
The mayor's been hosting meetings all across the city, taking questions and laying out his ideas for Charlotte's future.
The public meetings come as the mayor and City Council are trying to find common ground on a long-term capital plan, which would include transit and neighborhood improvement projects.
