CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- City planners are working to revitalize the North Tryon Street area from the Brookshire Freeway to West Sugar Creek Road.
People who live there say the area is filled with rundown buildings, used car lots and a lot of traffic congestion.
"It's very depressing. There's no place for a person to grocery shop unless they go further into the area. It's just a depressed area," said resident Sonja Lucas.
City planners say the area has a lot of potential, especially since it has easy access to the interstate and to uptown Charlotte. A revitalization plan is in the works that includes a greenway and better sidewalks.
"This was a vibrant side of town 25 years ago," Lucas said.
City staffers have been working with the community for the last two years on this plan and say work is expected to begin sometime in the next two years.
