CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A real show of community support for a local baseball league hit by vandals.
Saturday Sardis Dixie Youth Baseball League held a community fundraiser to help repair the damage.
In August, someone burned down the snack shack at their baseball field in south Charlotte.
Many NBC Charlotte viewers stepped up to help after the story aired last month.
“When NBC came out here in August and aired the story about the damage that had been done -- the effect that, that has had, I’ve had people who played here 20, 30 years ago and say, ‘what can I do to help, what can I do to help’ so today is a celebration of that,” said John Smith President of the Sardis Dixie Youth Baseball.
The goal was to raise $5,000 to rebuild the snack shack, after Saturday’s fundraiser the group had raised almost $7,000.
