Young’s parents say Marty loved angels and his mother would often sing about angels to him. They searched for seven months for an angel for Marty’s headstone and paid about $2,000 for it. It was installed on the top of Marty’s headstone on Mother’s Day 12 years ago.
Young's parents went to the beach over this Memorial Day weekend. They got a phone call telling them someone had stolen the bronze angel from their son's grave site in Oakwood Cemetery.
“They hurt Marty,” said Martin Young Sr. “They attacked my child. That’s the only way I can look at it is they attacked my child.”
Young's parents think whoever stole the angel is using it as an ornament in their home or sold it as scrap metal.
Young's mother said she searched the whole cemetery and has asked several people in the community if they've seen the bronze angel.
Young's parents said they went to their son's grave site approximately three times a week before the bronze angel was stolen.
Young's mother said she returns to the cemetery every day to look for the bronze angel or clues surrounding the crime.
“I hurt, I’ve cried, I talk to people. I don’t know what else to do except keep praying and keep looking,” mother Zelda Young said.
