MOUNT MOURNE, N.C. -- Eight fire departments helped battle a two-alarm blaze in the Mount Mourne area of Iredell County Wednesday afternoon.
Just before 5 p.m., Mount Mourne volunteer firefighters were dispatched to a home in the 200 block of Eastport Lane, near Highway 115.
The rural neighborhood had no fire hydrants and Mount Mourne VFD had to shuttle water -- which is standard procedure -- from a hydrant to the scene using eight tanker trucks.
Neighbors told NBC Charlotte that the home belonged to an elderly couple, Fred and Marion Baldwin, who ran a business from the garage attached to the home. Firefighters said the home and garage are a total loss.
Crews fought the fire for two hours before they were able to control it. No one was injured and the Iredell County Fire Marshal's Office is currently conducting an investigation.
The Mount Mourne VFD, Davidson, South Iredell, Sheperds, Lake Norman, Mooresville, Huntersville and Cornelius Fire Departments all responded to the fire.
