CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Ballantyne will not get public housing -- at least not now.
The Charlotte Housing Authority released a statement Monday afternoon, saying they won't participate in a housing project planned at the intersection of Providence Road West and Johnston Road.
Republic Development may still build an apartment community at the site, but it will not contain public housing associated with the Charlotte Housing Authority.
The housing authority blamed funding and density (the total number of apartment units relative to the cost of the land) for their decision to pull out.
The housing authority did say they are committed to bringing affordable housing to Ballantyne.
A public forum on the Republic Development project will be held at 6 p.m. at Harrison United Methodist Church on Old Lancaster Highway in Pineville.
NewsChannel 36 reporter Ann Sheridan will be there. She'll have a live report on NewsChannel 36 tonight after the Olympics.
