WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Marine biologists from UNC Wilmington think a dead whale that washed up on Carolina Beach died of natural causes.
The 16-foot whale washed up near the boardwalk Wednesday night.
Officials moved it so it wouldn't get washed back to sea. Biologists did find several bites on the whale that probably happened after it died. They say the bites look like they came from a great white shark.
Whales wash up on North Carolina's coast about 24 times a year.
