CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. -- There’s some good news for local victims of severe weather.
Families and businesses who lost things in the Catawba County flooding, as well as the severe weather in Burke, Caldwell and Lincoln counties between July 12 and 27, are allowed more for the repairs.
Governor McCrory announced both state and federal aid for storm victims, most of which are in Catawba County.
Dozens of homes, cars and roads flooded in that time. A disaster loan outreach center will open Thursday in Newton. Victims can also call a resource center for assistance at 1-800-659-2955.
Wednesday meant more good news for some Newtown drivers too. Highway 10 over Hildebran Creek has been patched up and reopened. Flood waters washed out that bridge, shutting down the highway in both directions.
The Department of Transportation originally said it could take more than a month to fix, but the work went much faster.
