CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The license plate on a black Dodge Charger recorded speeding erratically on Interstate 77 in Charlotte and using blue lights to pull over a vehicle was assigned to a Secret Service agent, according to a spokesperson for the U.S. Secret Service agency.
Special Agent in Charge, Russ Nelson, of the Secret Service office in Charlotte said, “The employee was working on duty in an official capacity in a US Secret Service vehicle at the time of the incident."
Nelson said they're investigating the incident and have placed the agent on paid leave until the issue is resolved.
A viewer sent the I-Team the video you can watch in the link below (viewer discretion is advised). The video seems to show an unmarked late model black Dodge Charger speeding erratically and then pulling over an SUV on Interstate 77 southbound at the I-485 off ramp, then speeding away.
First the Charger appears to travel over 80 miles an hour in a stretch of Interstate 77 near Tryon, Tyvola and Arrowood, where the speed limit is 55 mph. Once the Charger catches up with the SUV, the driver pulls in front of the SUV and then taps his brakes. The SUV passes the Charger in the left passing lane. Then the Charger pulls over the SUV using flashing blue lights in the front grill, and when the sport utility vehicle stops off at the I-485 off ramp before the flyover, the Charger speeds away up the I-485 flyover.
The tipster followed the Charger off of I-485 onto Johnston Road southbound, recording video intermittently along the way. The Charger apparently turned left onto Providence Road West where the tipster breaks off his pursuit as the Charger turns south onto Old Ardrey Kell Road, outrunning him at a high rate of speed.
