CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to a single-vehicle accident in the 6900 block of Old Mount Holly Road shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday.

A 2001 Honda Civic driven by 25-year-old Elvin Ortez ran off the road and overturned. Ortez was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic, police said.

There was one additional passenger in the car who was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
