BOONE, N.C. -- In the mountains, some two to four inches of snow fell in the Boone area, making driving difficult.

"We hadn't had anything like this in a couple of years," said George Dibble of Banner Elk as he got out of his car in the parking lot of a food store.

Around him, the snow swirled, driven by winds with gusts often running higher then 30 miles per hour.

"It is a lot of traffic and a lot of snow," said Brandy Wyatt who was behind the wheel of a snow plow. It’s a spot she admits a woman is not often found.

But this was a Wyatt family affair and all the plows were driven by women.

"Not often but me, my mom and my baby sister is over there behind me," said Wyatt.

At Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, staff members hustled to take advantage of what they said was a gift.

"It means the start of a good year," said Brian Acheson as he went through the skis and boots in the rental shop while huge snow guns added to the accumulation of real snow.

"We didn't get a lot of great snows last year," Acheson said.  "It is going to be a lot of fun."

The winter storm warning for the mountain area is expected to be lifted Wednesday with temperatures back in the 50s by the weekend.
