Drunk driver pleads guilty in fatal crash; sentenced to max

The wreck was reported after 7 p.m. in the 400 block of W. Sugar Creek Road, which is about a half mile from the intersection of Sugar Creek and North Tryon.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A man charged in a deadly accident in east Charlotte last summer has pleaded guilty.

Police said Steven Driggers was driving drunk while underage at the time of the crash.

They say Driggers crossed over the center line on Reedy Creek Road and struck the vehicle carrying the Rodriguez family head-on.

The father, Renaldo Rodriguez, was killed. His wife and teen daughter were injured.

Driggers pleaded guilty to felony death by motor vehicle and was sentenced to a maximum of just over three years behind bars.
