CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. – A Cabarrus County man says “Ripley's Believe It or Not” recently contacted him about a duckling that hatched with three legs.

Three eggs hatched about two weeks ago outside Robert Brooks’ home.

“My daughter thought something was stuck to it like the shell,” said Brooks.  “I picked him up and saw the extra leg and at first I didn’t know what it was.”

Brooks named the duckling Tripod and took him to a vet.  Tripod got a clean bill of health.

“It’s fully formed.  It just doesn’t work,” Brooks said of the third leg.

Tripod moves around the pen just fine, keeping up with his two siblings.

“We were afraid he would be picked on,” Brooks said. “He’s definitely not picked on.  He picks on the others.”

Brooks says “Ripley's Believe It or Not” asked for Tripod's body when he passes away.
