CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The city of Charlotte announced Friday three teams were invited to submit proposals for the Eastland Mall property project.
City Council voted last year to purchase the roughly 30 acres of land where the now abandoned shopping mall sits.
The three teams named are ARK Ventures, Studio Charlotte Development and Film Studios Group-Winter Properties-Frank Martin. Each team must submit its ideas for what to do with the property by May 30, 2013.
"Show us how you're going to find the money, what you're going to build, how long it will take and that you have the actual capacity to build it," said Peter Zeiler, with Charlotte Neighborhood and Business Development Department.
Two of the three teams did mention focusing on a film studio in their projects. All discussed using the land for mixed-use developments.
City Council will ultimately decide on which team will receive the bid. If the council does not approve any of the three, the city said it is working on a Plan B.
