EAST SPENCER, N.C – Rowan County detectives have arrested the ex-boyfriend of a woman who was murdered early Friday morning in East Spencer.
Police found the body of 49-year-old Joan Marie Know Lark in a downstairs bedroom inside a home off of Spencer Street.
Lark’s six grandchildren were upstairs sleeping during the early morning assault and found her dead, the report states.
During the murder investigation police said Lark’s ex-boyfriend, 54-year-old Gary Cureton, became a suspect and was arrested at a home on Concord Lake Road in Kannapolis.
Police say they found some of Lark’s personal property with Cureton. He has been charged with murder, first degree burglary and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
While being sent to jail, Cureton “complained of medical issues,” according to the report, and was taken to the hospital.
The investigation is ongoing.
