CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Trading guns for gift cards for the holidays.
The annual initiative to get guns off the streets of Charlotte is up and running.
Pastor John P. Kee puts on the event at New Life Fellowship on Samuel Street. This is the seventh year.
Pastor Kee says it’s all about keeping the community safe.
“To date, I believe we’ve taken in hundreds of guns off the street. And we’ve taken more guns than any other program in the city, including the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.”
The size of the gift card is to be determined by the type and number of guns brought in for an exchange.
The collection runs through Saturday at noon.
All guns will be turned over to CMPD.
Anyone participating should be mindful of the regulations:
- Limit exchanges to 5 per person
- Do not pull up to the front door*Have guns and ammunition in separate clear bags
- If you don't know how to unload the gun request assistance before entering the facility
- Leave immediately following your exchange
