STANLY COUNTY, N.C. – Officials in Stanly County say thousands of Duke Energy customers are without power.

Officials tell NBC Charlotte there was some sort of explosion on Main Street in Locust.

Representatives for Duke Energy say they have crews on the scene working to fix the problem. Click here to see current outages for Duke Energy.  Shortly after 3:13 p.m. the current outages in Stanly County had surpased 2,500.

It was not immediately clear what cause the explosion or what time officials expect the power to be restored.
