ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. -- Family of volunteer firefighter Marco Kauffman say they will wait for the results of a test to determine whether to pull him off life support.
On Wednesday, loved ones posted on his “Prayering for Marco” Facebook page, saying that his condition had "worsened drastically." A CT scan showed new damage to his brain, and that doctors have "done everything,” and it "may be time to let go."
The public response since the posting has been overwhelming.
Around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, the page stated that doctors requested a test be done to check for any brain activity, and if there is none, the family is prepared to take him off life support.
Kauffman was shot in the head during a burglary attempt in front of his home on Chenault Road in Cleveland.
He and his pregnant wife were returning home after spending the Thanksgiving holiday with both in-laws.
Authorities have arrested four men in connection to the shooting. A gun was recovered and has been sent to the crime lab to determine if it was used in burglary attempt.
