STALLINGS, N.C. --  A fire destroyed a golf clubhouse in a Union County neighborhood early Thursday morning.

Firefighters were called to the Emerald Lake Golf Club in Stallings a little after midnight on Thursday after someone reported a fire at the clubhouse.

Firefighters from four different departments prevented the flames from spreading to nearby homes.

It took firefighters about 90 minutes to control the blaze.

No one was injured during the fire, according to officials.

"The building was closed at the time of the fire, so we're still looking into the details of that," said Jon Williams, Deputy Fire Marshal of Union County.  “Very much under investigation at this time."

Ashley Burke lives next to the clubhouse but slept through Wednesday night’s fire.  She woke up to see fire trucks and other emergency vehicles in her front yard.

“We're at the swimming pool everyday and the clubhouse.  My little 8-year-old loves to play some golf. It's going to sad that we're not going to able to do that for a while," said Burke.
