CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A man accused of being careless with fire has been arrested after an apartment fire Tuesday that damaged twenty units.

Edgar Moore Stevenson has been charged with careless with fire.  He has been arrested five times prior to the latest arrest for charges including cocaine sell/deliver and cocaine possession.

No one was seriously injured in the fire.

"I saw smoke coming out of the building," said Anya Henry who lives at the apartments.  "I was trying to pull the fire alarm and it was too late because people were already running out of the building."

Firefighters were called to the Beacon Eastchase Apartments at about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

James Ragland was at work with his son when the fire broke out.  "Another struggle in life that you can't do anything about...you just have to get past it," he said.

The Red Cross was at the scene helping people who were displaced and Animal Care Control helped families find free services for their animals that were displaced as well.

Damage is estimated at $300,000.
