SHELBY, N.C. -- One person died and a Cleveland County highway was closed for hours after a fiery five-vehicle wreck Monday morning.

Four of the five cars erupted into flames in the crash, and two other victims were injured.

Emergency crews responded around 10 a.m. in the 2500 block of West Dixon Boulevard in front of the Ingles store. 

George Reid Hope, 60, of Shelby died at the scene.  Bridge Hinson of Ellenboro and Teresa Diane Chandler, 45, of Shelby were also injured and taken to Cleveland Regional Medical Center.  Both are being treated and their conditions are not known, according to the Shelby Police Department.

A portion of Highway 74 westbound was not expected to reopen until 7 p.m.

An investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information about the wreck to call the Shelby Police Departmentat 704-484-6845.
