Former junior high coach pleads guilty to sex charge

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- A former teacher and coach at York Junior High School pleaded guilty Thursday to solicitation of a minor.
Vernon Cheeks, 28, was arrested in March 2009 and accused of sending sexually explicit text messages to two female students.
Cheeks will spend three years in prison followed by three years probation. He is also required to register as a sex offender.
Cheeks taught health and coached football and basketball at York Junior High. He was fired after his arrest.
