WASHINGTON D.C. -- Vice President Joe Biden administered the oath of office Thursday.
Foxx told a crowd gathered for the ceremony that his number one priority will be to ensure that the U.S. transportation system is the most efficient and safest in the world.
“If you think about it, transportation is the best example of what one generation can do for the next,” he said. “Look at our road system, or our bridges, or our airports, or our rail system, or our ports. In most cases, those were not built by us. They were built by generations that came before, and our solemn obligation as a department is to continue the generational advancement that comes in our nation’s infrastructure.”
Foxx was unanimously confirmed last month by the U.S. Senate.
He replaces for secretary Ray LaHood.
