HICKORY, N.C. (AP) -- Friends and family of Army Pfc. David Tyler Proctor are remembering the North Carolina soldier who died of noncombat injuries in Afghanistan as a patriot who wanted to serve and protect.
The Hickory Daily Record reported a funeral was held Friday for the 26-year-old Proctor, who died March 13 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.
The military said Proctor was injured March 3 in Kandahar Province in a noncombat incident. He graduated from UNC Greensboro, and his family said Afghanistan was his first deployment.
About 100 people attended his funeral Friday at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.
