CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Rock Hill South Pointe defeated Independence Friday night in our game of the week.

The two power teams meet under unusual circumstances. Both are coming off losses. The Patriots are 0-1 after tangling with Mallard Creek to start their season.

"We're a team in transition," said Coach Bill Geiler. "We've new guys and young guys playing in new positions. The better team won last week. We've been practicing hard and we hope the result will be a little different."

As for the Stallions of South Pointe, they just played on national TV last Saturday. Northwestern lit them up in the second half -- a hard loss for the entire nation to see.

Head coach Bobby Carroll said Wednesday there is a method to his madness in scheduling the likes of Northwestern and Independence.

"You know, we've got our work cut out for us. But that's the whole reason we play them. We didn't pick a bunch of pansies to play," said Carroll. "We play the best of the best. Northwestern is ranked No. 1 in the state. We played them. I'm not sure where Independence is ranked, but they lost to a Mallard Creek team that's unbelievable. So, we're just fortunate to be there."
