CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Emergency crews responded to a construction site at UNC Charlotte on Tuesday afternoon after a gas line ruptured.
The incident took place in the 8800 block of High Rise Road near the main entrance of campus next to Scott Hall. The Charlotte Fire Department said a six-inch gas line ruptured on the construction site where a new dining hall is being built. Crews arrived on scene around 4 p.m.
Three firetrucks were called, and students were forced to wait outside one of the original dorms before being allowed back in around 4:15 p.m.
The NBC Charlotte chopper pilot said he could smell the gas from the air above. The line was fixed by 6 p.m.
