GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) -- Mount Holly police say a woman sped off from a license checkpoint, then called her husband and asked him to impede the officers pursuing her.

The Gaston Gazette reports 30-year-old Crystal Dawn Bradley drove up to a license checkpoint in Ranlo and told police her license was suspended. She was asked to park on the side of the road, but instead sped off.

Investigators think Bradley called her husband, who they say tried to run interference and nearly hit two patrol cars. Police say both Bradley and 29-year-old Daniel Eugene Vaughn resisted arrest when they were apprehended Wednesday morning.

Bradley faces multiple charges and is in the Gaston County jail under $150,000 bond. Vaughn was taken to a local hospital after telling police he had a medical condition.
