HICKORY, N.C. – Police have issued citations to three sweepstakes owners for operating an illegal sweepstakes business.

Hickory detectives and undercover officers went inside the business at Circle S Depot on Springs Road Northeast to see if they were violating the N.C. Supreme Court’s ruling.

Investigators said they seized 28 machines and issued citations to Judy Sigmon, Curtis Huffman, and Robert Klingensmeith.

Authorities also interviewed the patrons inside the business, they were later released.

"These type of businesses have been given ample time to discontinue their operations after the NC Supreme Court ruling and most have done so", said Deputy Police Chief Clyde Deal.

Hickory Police Department said they will continue to investigate any complaints of any illegal sweepstakes gaming operations within the city limits of Hickory.
