CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Two burglars ran from a home in the Sedgefield neighborhood after the homeowner walked in on the thieves as they ransacked his living room.
The homeowner, who asked not to be identified, said he was working Friday afternoon in an upstairs office at his home in the 1100 block of Princeton Avenue, near Freedom Park. He heard sounds coming from the first floor of his home and walked downstairs to investigate.
He said he apparently startled the two burglars who had forced their way through a door and knocked over a ceramic planter. The men ran from the home and jumped into a white Mercury Grand Marquis sedan which had been backed into the driveway.
As the car sped away, the homeowner said he was able to see the license plate. He called police and described the car to a dispatcher.
Officers found the car a short time later in a parking lot at the Brookhill Apartments on Remount Road, near I-77.
Police questioned neighbors at the apartment complex, but were not able to find the suspected burglars.
Before they were discovered, the thieves took three computers and a television, the homeowner told NewsChannel 36.
Police records show there have been two other residential burglaries reported this year within a quarter-mile of the Princeton Avenue home.
There was one residential burglary reported during the same time period in 2009.
