STATESVILLE, N.C. -- The Iredell County animal shelter has dismantled its gas chamber and plans to recycle the parts, the Animal Care supervisor tells NBC Charlotte.
Rachel Beaudin says this is one of many ways Animal Services will promote humane practices. The shelter removed the carbon monoxide chamber on Wednesday.
Previous Animal Control Director Chris Royal resigned earlier this year amid allegations the gas chamber was used inappropriately.
Beaudin says the shelter will now only use chemical injection to euthanize animals.
She adds they hope to adopt out as many animals as possible.
