HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – The Carolina Raptor Center released a juvenile bald eagle Wednesday.

The eagle, nicknamed Explorer, hatched earlier this year in Orlando, F.L., and was released at the McGuire Nuclear Station’s EnergyExplorium.

After being banded in Maitland, F.L., in March and released in April, Explorer wasted no time flying north along the east coast.

Two weeks after his April release, he was rescued by Randy Atkinson, a rehabber in Rocky Mount, N.C.

Staff says the release was scheduled for June 17 at the Charlotte Symphony concert but had to be delayed.

To view the bird’s electronic medical record, you can go to http://raptormed.carolinaraptorcenter.org and look for Patient # 15138.
