BELMONT, N.C. -- Albemarle native Kellie Pickler was excited to be back home in the state of North Carolina on Thursday afternoon.
Pickler spent a few hours at the Belmont Walmart interacting with fans and promoting her new CD "The Woman I Am" which was released this week.
"It's so great to be back home in Carolina," she said. "I don't get to come home that much. My mailing address is in Nashville, but I feel like I don't even live there, I kind of live where every my bus is parked because I'm always on the road."
Fans waited for hours to meet the 27-year-old country singer who was making her first of two public appearances to promote her album.
Pickler took time on Thursday to speak with NBC Charlotte about her new album and the passion she put in developing her title song with her husband Kyle Jacobs.
"Nobody knows me better than him," Pickler said of her popular songwriter husband. "He's my best friend and it was really special [to have him apart of the album]."
Pickler also reflected on her hometown of Albemarle.
"I was actually at the grand opening in Walmart when I 17 and sang the National Anthem," she said. "It was, like, the biggest deal that every happened to Albemarle - we got a super Walmart!"
Pickler will be at that same Walmart on Friday promoting her new album and meeting with her hometown fans.
