CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A stretch of South Tryon Street near uptown Charlotte is down to one travel lane in each direction.
Charlotte Department of Transportation officials say South Tryon between Carson Boulevard and Stonewall Street will be reduced to three lanes for three months.
The lanes are closed for a 90-day test as the city DOT considers adding bike and pedestrian lanes to the street.
If the city moves ahead with the project, that stretch of South Tryon Street will be permanently changed from five lanes of traffic to three.
