DAVIDSON, N.C. -- A local high school football team scored 104 points in one game on Friday night.

Davidson Day School beat Harrells Christian from the Fayetteville-area, 104-80, on Friday night to put them into the N.C. Independent Schools’ Division II championship game at Ardren Christ School.

“I don’t know what to say,” Davidson Day head coach Chad Grier said to the Charlotte Observer. “It was crazy. I don’t think I’ll ever live to see something like that happen again. It was just nuts.”

According to the Charlotte Observer, Davidson Day junior quarterback Will Grier threw for a national record 837 yards. The old mark of 764 was set by Pacific Palisades (Calif.) QB David Koral in 2000.

Grier now has 5,294 passing yards for the season, breaking former Independence QB Chris Leak’s 10-year-old N.C. and Mecklenburg County mark of 5,193.

The teams’ combined 184 points obliterated the existing state mark of 142, which was originally set in 1930. They combined for 50 points in the second quarter and 60 in the fourth.
