CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Helping local children experience the arts could be as easy as making a pot of joe. At least, that's what the people behind the new "CLT Buzzed Blends" coffee hope.
The coffee, called CLT Buzzed, is product of a partnership between the blog CLTBuzz, Magnolia Coffee roasting company and the Young Affiliates of the Mint. One dollar from every bag is being donated to the Mint Museum's Cultural Campus program, which provides trips to the museum to every seventh grader in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.
"There is a gap in funding that the Mint Museum and Arts Council cannot cover for that program. So they reached out and we thought this would be a great way to raise money," said Allison Purmort with the Young Affiliates of the Mint.
Jay Gestwicki, with Magnolia Coffee, roasts all the beans himself, "If you're a good roaster, buying good beans, you kind of want to do the right thing. I get to see people enjoy the coffee, but to know I'm really making a difference with this project, it's cool."
The medium-roast coffee is locally roasted and benefits local students so, naturally, it's being sold in local stores.
You can find CLT Buzzed coffee at Reid's Fine Foods, Whole Foods, Atherton Market in Southend, Julia's Cafe in the Habitat ReStore and Mugg's Coffee. You can also order bags online at www.MagnoliaCoffeeCo.com
