FORT MILL, S.C. -- A group of volunteers who help others is now looking for some help themselves.
The Serving Meals Ministry has outgrown its current location.
The non-profit feeds 100 people every Saturday, and most of the food is cooked in founder Mary Baker's kitchen.
"I do not like to cook, so I was kind surprised when God put it on my heart and my husband's heart to cook," she said.
Baker says she got the idea for the ministry after noticing a certain Fort Mill neighborhood while taking her son to school.
"There was a dark cloud and I just kept praying God, what do you want us to do to go in and help these people."
The people they serve are from all walks of life.
"It's single mothers, single fathers. It’s aunts and uncles."
Mary and volunteers have been helping people for seven years now and are looking for a bigger space to expand the ministry.
"It takes probably 3 1/2 to four hours to get a meal done completely," she said.
According to Mary, "I have to deal with pans not made for this size of kitchen, which is challenging. [Also], trying to get your oven to cook for a dish that's made for 100 people, you have to cook it longer."
The group is hoping a new building can be donated.
"We are looking for a community center, downtown Fort Mill. We want it downtown because we want it to be accessible to everyone."
