CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- International rescue teams, including a group of volunteers from the Carolinas, are rushing aid to the Philippines following a devastating Typhoon.

Samaritan’s Purse jumped into action immediately.

“You know, this is important. They need our help,” Jim Walker, a representative for the organization, said.

Friday, crews loaded up 110 tons of supplies into a 747, like 5.5 million square feet of tarps, 12,000 blankets and pounds upon pounds of food. They also packed six water systems from Water Missions International that can turn out 10,000 gallons of fresh water per day.

“How long we’ll be there? Well God only knows that. We’re going to meet the need, and take one day at a time. We’re going to meet it.” Walker said.

A team of 25 people from Samaritan’s Purse is already on the ground in the Philippines to coordinate logistics. Doctors and nurses are already on the way, and eventually, Walker says Franklin Graham himself plans to head there too.
