CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A controversial low-income housing project was given a green light from Charlotte city leaders.

Developers plan to build 70 low-income apartments on Weddington Road near Simfield Church Road.

Neighbors fought the plan, citing traffic on the roads in that area and concerns about the effects the project could have on property values.

Tuesday night, council members approved the rezoning 9-2.
