CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- They get more than three-hundred calls a day  and respond to more than  one hundred thousand a year.

So how does MEDIC  get to all those calls quickly?

Dispatchers are looking at the history, week by week, day by day, hour by hour, and identifying areas they consider hot spots.  The system is successful.   We checked.  MEDIC is responding faster with the hot spots  now in place.

It made a difference for Carol Toms.   Toms works at MEDIC, doing scheduling.  Last May, she had chest pains on her way to work.

"I felt like I wsa dying.  They came and looked so good in their blue shirts.  I was so happy, so happy to see them, Toms through tears.

“We want to be ahead of those call volumes instead of chasing it for an hour,” said MEDIC supervisor Todd Sims.

Sims said responders are moved throughout the day, and are constantly in a place where they can not only respond fast, but also replace each other as crews become busy.

“Based on the history, we can see te probablitty of where those calls in the future will be coming in,” he said.
