MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- A quick, violent storm ripped through Iredell County Wednesday afternoon and lightning from that storm struck a storage building on Hazelton Loop, burning it to the ground.

Lou Salandino owned the building and he used it to store equipment for his small lawn care business. It was all destroyed.

Salandino was not home when the lightning hit the building, located in his backyard.

"I thank God I was not home at the time that happened because I would have been in the backyard working on the lawn mowers," said Salandino.

His neighbor, Boone Parker, heard the lightning strike and called 911. He tried unsuccessfully to put out the fire with a hose.

Salandino is retired but used the lawn care business to earn extra money and pay bills. He hopes insurance will cover the loss.
