CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A man with a gun stole a money bag from someone making a deposit at a bank drop box in southwest Charlotte Sunday morning, police said.
The incident marked the second time in two months that someone has been robbed while trying to deposit money at the Wachovia branch on 1500 Westinghouse Blvd.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a man was depositing money there shortly before 9 a.m. when a man walked up and displayed a handgun.
He took the bank deposit bag and fled into nearby woods, police said.
The suspect is described as black, 6-foot-3 inches tall, 220pounds and wearing a black hoodie, ski mask, blue jeans and possibly some kind of makeup.
In November, a man robbed two women at Wachovia drop boxes. One of those drop boxes was at 1500 Westinghouse; the other was on Tyvola Road.
Both women were depositing money from Petro Express stores. Investigators say they're unsure if Sunday's robbery is unrelated to the November cases. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
