CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred late Saturday night.

About 10 minutes before 11, police were called out to the 2400 block of Alleghany Street in reference to a person laying the roadway.

When officers arrived on scene, an unresponsive male was located; MEDIC pronounced the man, 50-year-old Carrington Devol Ware, deceased. NBC Charlotte has learned Ware was disabled.

Authorities say the man appears to have been struck by a car while attempting to cross the street. The occupant of the vehicle didn't stop to assist the victim, police say.

At this point, police say they don't have any information on a possible suspect vehicle.

If you have any information on this case, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600.
