CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A jaywalking pedestrian was struck and killed on University City Boulevard Saturday night in Charlotte, police say.

Police say Rena Laton, 61, struck a man in the 10100 block of University City Boulevard with her 2004 Honda CRV around 11:30 Saturday night.

A witness told police they'd seen the man crossing the street just before the accident and had to swerve to miss him themselves.

Police say the man was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk, and the roadway was not illuminated by streetlights.

The man, 60-year-old Lee Taylor Feaster, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police say neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, and the driver has not been charged.

The investigation is ongoing.
