CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A man and a woman were arrested in west Charlotte late Monday night after leading police on a chase that started in Belmont.

Belmont police told NBC Charlotte that while performing surveillance at the Abbey Inn around 8:30 p.m. Monday, they saw the couple, suspected them of drug activity and tried to pull them over.

According to police, the suspect's truck sped away from them and refused to pull over.

The chase took Belmont officers out of Gaston County and into Charlotte, along side streets just west of Charlotte-Douglas Airport.

The pursuit ended when the suspects turned down Garrison Road -- which dead ends -- and jumped from the truck and ran into a nearby wooded area.

About 30 minutes later, police emerged from the woods with both the man and woman in handcuffs.

Police have not yet released their names nor what charges they will be facing.
