CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- More than two dozen people are looking for a place to stay after a late-night fire forced them out of their east Charlotte apartment complex.

The fire at the Country Club Apartments on Eastway Drive and Dunlavin Way broke out around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

When firefighters arrived flames were shooting through the roof.

Authorities say eight units were damaged in one building, but everyone got out unharmed. It took 50 firefighters to get the fire under control.

Investigators say the fire started in the back of the building but the cause is still under investigation.

The fire caused $250, 000 in damage, according to officials.
