MONROE, N.C. – A teacher’s assistant in Union County shot her ex-husband in the head and lied about the incident to investigators, according to the Monroe Police Department.

It happened at a home in the 800 block of East Sunset Drive early Saturday morning.

Police say Jeanine Collins got into an argument with her ex-husband and shot him during a struggle.

Collins is listed on Union County Academy’s Web site as a teacher’s assistant.

She’s now charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
