MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- A Mooresville teen is in hot water after he tweeted about wanting to kill the president.

The Mooresville police captain said that they learned of a student tweeting threats against President Obama from a school resource officer. The 14 year old, who lives less than a mile from the police station, attends Mooresville Middle school. It’s the same school President Obama addressed last week.

"The student tweeted that he was going to shoot the president if he saw him at school,” said Captain Joseph Cooke of the Mooresville Police Department. "We were going to do everything we could to safeguard [the president],” Cooke said.

The police department then contacted the Secret Service and both worked the investigation. The 14 year old was detained by the Secret Service when the President was at the middle school.
The teen now faces charges of communicating threats against an executive officer.

The Mooresville Graded School district may also punish the teen but pointed out that any disciplinary actions are confidential.
